The last in the Trylle series – Ascend. In the second book, Torn, Lori was caught sneaking into Förening . What confused Wendy the most was – Lori was strong enough to overpower anybody in Förening  and he also had the power to make the opposite person lose conscious. Ellora had to use all her power to hold Lori back in the room he was locked in. The power she was using was wearing her out physically and mentally. She was tired and growing old. She was 39 but looked 75. Lori was allowed to return back to Vittra only when Oren assured them to not try to kidnap Wendy until she became the Queen.

And I’m back with the second book of Amanda Hocking’s Trylle series – TORN.

The end of the first book saw Wendy running away from Förening. She takes Rhys along with her from the palace. She felt it is necessary for him to know his real family. She tries to explain her disappearance to Matt, and the truth about Rhys – whom she replaced. Matt of course thinks all of this is just a dream and he’s going to wake up and things will go back to normal.

The First Night

We read a lot of fantasy books that mention battles and wars and much more. Unfortunately, down the line the focus rests on the love story of the protagonist and the numerous options she has. I was pleasantly surprised to not be reading another fantasy on the same lines.

The First, along with Alex and her friends share a common enemy – the Chimeras. The difference being, Alex knows who’s making the Chimeras. The First are commonly known as the vampires but dare to call them so, and you might just not live. When the First cross paths with the humans, Alex understands why the Chimeras were created in the first place.

She helps Zeke, a First, to understand it all. She gives him information about the Odin, the shareholders and the guy behind it all. They know that if they have to take the Odin down, it has to be together. But is it possible for The First and humans to work together? The First possess the strength and the speed, while the humans have access to information through technology and also the required ammunition. How are they going to work together?

What is the secret behind the immense power possessed by the Chimeras? What is Alex’s need to fight the Odin? Read the book to find out.

For people who think it’s just another vampire story, it’s surely not. For, Zeke and the First are not portrayed as Gods (read Edward, from Twilight). Of course, the love is there but you have more fights than love scenes. Which I thought will surely work for the book.

I’d give it a 4/5.

Five point someone

Five Point Someone focuses on the journey of three freshers through their four years of graduation.  Just like the life of most college students, the book talks about it all – ragging by seniors, the importance of excelling in studies, wrath of professors, pushing each other to fight their fears, getting drunk just before the exam, falling in love with the Dean’s daughter, post course job placements and many more such incidents.
